Electrophysiology at Phoebe

Individuals who suffer from arrhythmias  -- an irregular heartbeat caused by the chambers of the heart beating out of sync -- can get the treatment they need and recuperate close to home.

Phoebe’s electrophysiologists are among a handful of physicians in the state specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias  – from cutting-edge catheter-based ablation to device-based therapies.

Many arrhythmias can be completely cured through cardiac ablation. Phoebe Electrophysiology was the first in the region to perform cryoablation of atrial fibrillation – a newer more precise technique of cardiac catheter ablation which takes less time and has a much higher success rate. Other arrhythmias are treated and controlled by medication, implanted devices and/or surgical procedures.

Our cardiac electrophysiologists perform a vast array of procedures that address the electrical system of the heart  from implantation and extraction to ablation:

  • Automatic Implantable Cardioverter
  • Defibrillator (AICD) implantation
  • Biventricular AICD implantation
  • Radiofrequency cathetherablation of atrial flutter
  • Laser lead extraction of an AICD
  • Subctaneous AICD implantation
  • Cryoablation of atrial fibrillation
  • Pacemaker implantation
