Pre-Replacement Joint Camp Improves Outcomes

Knowing what to expect before and after total hip or knee replacement surgery is easier than ever thanks to Joint Camp hosted by Phoebe Orthopaedic Specialty Group.

Every Tuesday, patients scheduled for surgery meet with a nurse to go over what they can expect – from pre-op through physical therapy.

What you will learn at Joint Camp:

  • What a typical patient experience consists of
  • Equipment you will see while in the hospital
  • How that equipment will be used
  • Expectations are also discussed
  • Available types of therapy, including pain management
  • Care after going home

Patients who attend Joint Camp are better informed and typically have fewer incidents of infection and pneumonia. They also have less anxiety prior to surgery.

Total Joint Camp

Before patients have hip or knee replacements, or shoulder or back surgery, they meet with a dedicated orthopaedic nurse navigator. The nurse navigator provides them with education and support to get back to their lives as quickly as possible.
