Meet Gavin

"The NICU staff included us in Gavin’s care and provided so much comfort to us on hard days. We truly felt like we were a part of the process and that the staff took our opinion to heart.” – Tiffany, Gavin’s mom

Tiffany and James Stroup’s daughter was nine years old when the family found out Tiffany was pregnant with a little boy. During her pregnancy, Tiffany’s amniotic fluid got high and she started to get monitored weekly and was sent to see Dr. Edwards, Phoebe’s maternal fetal medicine specialist. One day when Tiffany was being monitored, her baby’s heart rate dropped off completely and Tiffany and James were told she would have to have an immediate C-section at 34 weeks. They were absolutely terrified!

Gavin was born weighing 4 pounds 7 ounces and was immediately rushed to the NICU. Gavin’s main obstacles in the NICU were holding a healthy weight, temperature, and being able to eat on his own. Gavin was on a feeding tube for 14 days before he could eat on his own. Gavin spent 16 days in the NICU and while every day was an obstacle, Tiffany and James were amazed at his resilience and the amazing care he received.

“The NICU staff included us in Gavin’s care and provided so much comfort to us on hard days,” Tiffany explained. “We truly felt like we were a part of the process and that the staff took our opinion to heart.

Gavin has received 2 surgeries since birth (10 months and 14 months) for a birth defect.  The care he received both times was amazing and the staff in Surgicare, Pre-Op, OR, and Pediatrics were amazing.

Today, Gavin is a happy, healthy (and ADORABLE) almost 2 years old and is a true miracle! We are so thankful for the funds Children’s Miracle Network provides to Phoebe’s NICU to allow these tiny patients to graduate from the NICU and become our next generation that will change and shape our world!
