National Athletic Trainer Month

Will Sells, ATC

Sports medicine has come a long way over the past 60 years and is a vital part of a patient’s continuum of care. March is National Athletic Training Month, a time to spread awareness about the important work of athletic trainers as we do much more than just taping ankles.

Certified athletic trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Our roles are crucial in helping patients return to normal life activities and participating in sports quickly. We play an important role in the rehabilitation process for athletes and non-athletes to help ensure injured patients build and maintain strength as he or she recovers.

At Phoebe, we have 11 certified athletic trainers who not only help injured athletes but also work on the sidelines at 15 area high schools in six counties, one college and one university to prevent injuries from happening. Through these partnerships we are able to provide healthcare to the student-athletes through first aid and emergency services during sporting events and weekly practices. Combined, our athletic trainers have decades of experience and are experts in knowing how to support athletes to keep their bodies healthy and in the game.

At Phoebe Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, we are proud to serve our community and help student athletes, weekend warriors and everyone in between get back on their feet.
