Sumter Pink Set for October 21


Americus, GA | September 15, 2023 – The Phoebe Sumter Foundation has announced that its Sumter Pink Walk for Cancer will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023. The annual event, which raises money for local cancer patients, will take place at the Mattie H. Marshall Cross Country Trail, located at 126 HWY 280Win Americus.

Participants are encouraged to register early for the event. Registration is $25 per person now through October 13 and $35 per person October 14 till the day of the event. Each registrant will receive a Sumter Pink t-shirt and a goodie bag. To register go to phoebehealth.com/sumterpink.

Over the past four years, Sumter Pink has raised more than $65,000 for local cancer patients. The Sumter Pink Walk for Cancer benefits Phoebe Sumter Oncology and the patients it serves.

“Sumter Pink has really become an annual tradition in the community. The event not only raises awareness for all cancers, but it is a celebration for survivors, caretakers, those currently fighting the disease and those we that have lost. It is an inspiring event for everyone, and I am excited to see the city of Americus joining our efforts,” said Katherine Council, Director, Phoebe Sumter Foundation.

The City of Americus is joining in to help raise awareness during the month of October. The city’s First Friday theme for October will be “Mission Pink”, and several local businesses are designing special ‘pink’ products that will be sold to help raise funds for Sumter Pink and support local cancer patients.

In 2023, the American Cancer Society estimates nearly 2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in the United States, and that nearly 610,000 people will lose their battle with the disease. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer diagnoses with an estimated 297,790 women and 2,800 men being diagnosed with the disease.
