Phoebe gives back to the region we serve in many ways, providing immense benefit to our communities. Last fiscal year, Phoebe provided more than $38 million in uncompensated care to our hospital patients. We provide free care to inmates in the Dougherty County Jail, offer free prescriptions for indigent or uninsured patients, give free flu shots and host health fairs where hundreds of people get access to free health education and screenings. We believe it is our responsibility to make a difference in the communities we serve, and we look for opportunities to do that every day.

COVID-19

After the Albany area became one of the first COVID-19 hotspots in the country and one of the worst in the world, Phoebe responded with unparalleled intensity, ingenuity and innovation – doing whatever was needed to serve our patients, protect our staff and inform our community. Our mass testing, vaccination and monoclonal antibody therapy programs were among the most successful in Georgia. At no cost to patients, we have administered 80,000 COVID-19 vaccinations and provided monoclonal antibody treatments to around 5,000 people. Our mobile wellness clinics have made nearly 300 visits to locations throughout the region, bringing access to vaccines to the people.

Elevation Project

A great example of Phoebe’s community outreach is the Elevation Project, our collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine and area churches. We have trained Elevation Project champions at the churches who are spreading the word about the need for prostate screenings, especially among African American men who are at greater risk of the disease. We provided free screenings to nearly 300 men at the first four events, and our goal is to exceed 1,000 screenings this year.

Network of Trust

For 30 years, Phoebe has given back to our community through our Network of Trust. The program provides school nurses for the Dougherty County School System, with about 7,000 student visits each year. The nurses lead teen parenting classes in five counties that have greatly improved graduation rates and access to healthcare for teen parents. They also offer other free programs including CPR training, teen pregnancy prevention classes and asthma awareness education to help save and improve lives.
