Pricing Philosophy

In order to deliver a full range of high quality healthcare services to Southwest Georgians, our organization must be financially strong. A positive operating margin creates funding for Phoebe to reinvest in the people, technology and space necessary to provide the healthcare and community services the citizens of this region deserve.

We re-examine pricing for our services at least annually through a comprehensive internal and external assessment. We compare ourselves to our local, regional and national peers to ensure our prices are within industry norms. We must also consider unique market demographics such as high percentages of Medicaid, indigent and charity patients for whom the reimbursement we receive often does not cover our costs to provide care. In addition, we utilize the annual U.S. Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Hospital and Related Services. The CPI provides national data on healthcare price increases we can compare to Phoebe’s pricing. Where possible we reduce prices that are particularly patient sensitive or offer the services at a lower price point in a lower cost setting.

Our goal is to arrive at a pricing structure that is competitive among our regional and national peers with sensitivity to patients, enables Phoebe to offer the services our community needs close to home, funds capital to invest in medical technology and training, provides Phoebe the ability to offer competitive compensation for our workforce and supports our vision to make every life we touch better.

Price Transparency at Phoebe

Medical costs are often unanticipated and not all costs are covered by insurance, but when planning for your future medical care, Phoebe has long been committed to assisting you with any questions you may have, including payment plans and financial assistance for those who qualify. As part of that commitment, Phoebe has provided detailed price estimates for planned procedures since 2015, and we continue to serve as a resource for our patients to assist with estimating the cost of care. The hospitals’ charges are the same for all patients, but a patient’s responsibility may vary, depending on acuity, service utilization, contracted rates negotiated with individual health insurance companies and a patient’s out of pocket responsibility (i.e. deductible, co-insurance, copays, etc.). Uninsured or underinsured patients may be eligible for financial assistance, which will also impact the final cost of care. Click here for personal assistance with your estimate.

Effective January 1, 2021, the Health and Human Services Department has required all hospitals operating in the United States to establish, update, and make public a list of their standard charges for the items and services they provide. While intended to assist patients with making more informed decisions about their care, healthcare is often unique to the patient’s needs, and may vary by individual. All of the information about Phoebe hospitals is listed in the link below and is shared in accordance with that law.
