Phoebe Foundation Governing Board

As a true not-for-profit health system, Phoebe is operated by a volunteer board drawn from the community it serves. They serve without pay, volunteering time and expertise. They set policy, create goals, evaluate management’s performance, and ensure Phoebe operates in the best interest of the community. Below you can learn more about our volunteer governing board members for Phoebe Foundation.

 

Kari Middleton | Chairwoman

With more than 25 years of experience in State and Federal courts, Kari Middleton leads the litigation team at Baudino Law Group and is resident in the Albany office.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Georgia State University College of Law, Kari has served her community through leadership positions on various local boards, most recently including Easterseals of Southern Georgia, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Doublegate Country Club.  She is also an active member of the Charity League of Albany. Kari and her husband, Faison, have two sons, Frank and Boles.


Matt Rushton | Vice Chairman

An Albany native, Matt Rushton is a Senior Vice President at AB&T.

He attended Albany High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia. He is also a graduate of the Georgia Academy of Economic Development. Matt’s community activities include leadership roles with Deerfield Windsor School, First United Methodist Church, the Georgia Bankers Association and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce.


Olumayowa Abiodun, MD

Dr. Olumayowa Abiodun is the only female plastic & reconstructive surgeon in the Albany area.

Dr. Mayowa Abiodun joined the Phoebe family to launch the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery practice in 2019. She received her B.S. in Biology with honors from the University of Houston in Texas; then earned her Doctor of Medicine with honors from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. Dr. Abiodun completed her residency in general surgery at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and her residency in plastic surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. She is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Abiodun and her husband, Lanre, have two daughters.


Wael Azer, DO

Dr. Wael Azer has served as an Emergency Department Physician at various Phoebe facilities since 2015.

A native of Luxor, Egypt, he immigrated to the United States and earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, after which he completed his residency at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in New Jersey. He serves as co-chair of the opioid committee and is active on numerous committees and projects within Phoebe.


Rick Doherty

Rick Doherty is President and CEO of Doherty, Duggan & Rouse Insurors.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and is a board member for Terry College of Business Foundation and served as president of Albany Advocacy Resource Center. He and his wife, Pam, are co-lay leaders for a ministry to the homeless, and he is also involved with a prison ministry. They are the parents of three children.


Chap Enfinger

Chap Enfinger is general manager of Pineland Plantation.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in aviation management from Southern Illinois University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and has served on the board of directors of Georgia Agri-Leaders, Albany Tech Foundation and Westwood Schools. He and his wife, Darra, have two children.


Angie Gardner

Angie Gardner is a school principal in the Dougherty County School System, where she began working as a teacher in 2005.

Prior to that she was a Director of Education at Ramsey Youth Services in Dothan, AL, where she worked with special education students. She earned Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Albany State University and a Master of Education degree from Troy State University.


Chirag Jani, MD

Chirag Jani, MD, is a Geriatrician, Hematologist and Oncologist at Phoebe Cancer Center.

His leadership roles have included: Chairman of Cancer Committee, Multidisciplinary Breast and Tumor Board, Chair of Quality Committee, Principal Investigator Pharmaceutical and Federally Funded Oncology Studies, and Chairman of Department of Medicine. He is currently Medical Director of Oncology and Hematology, co-director of Willson Hospice House and Associate Professor at Augusta University. He and his wife, Ami, have two sons, Yash and Preet.


Zoe Jarzen

Zoe Jarzen was born in Albany and is a 1992 graduate of Valdosta State University with a degree in accounting.

She began her career in Atlanta with the CPA firm Mauldin & Jenkins. Zoe has supported the Albany community through service to the Junior League of Albany, the Flint RiverQuarium Board and the Charity League of Albany. Zoe began her career with Merrill Lynch in the fall of 2011 and is currently a Senior Financial Advisor and member of the CWC Group. Zoe is married to Brent Jarzen and has two children.


Bucky Leach

Bucky Leach is the Senior Vice President of Investments at Heritage Bank of the South.

Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mercer University. Bucky has also served on the Dougherty County Pension Board, the Military Affairs Committee of the Albany Chamber of Commerce and as president of Doublegate Country Club. He and his wife, Jenna, have two children.


Lacy Lee

Albany native Lacy Lee graduated from Albany High School and attended the University of Georgia.

She began her professional career in banking but spent thirty years at Phoebe, where she developed Phoebe’s first organized volunteer department and first hospital gift shop. Lacy has served in leadership roles for many community organizations, including the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, Albany Dougherty Historic Preservation Commission, Flint RiverQuarium and Palmyra Heights Garden Club.


Sakina Nurbhai

Sakina Nurbhai is a graduate of University of Kent, England and holds a Masters in Finance from Baruch School of Business, New York.

She worked in a nonprofit organization in New York for a few years being part of their Finance team. She has lived in Albany for 10 years with her husband Dr. Nur Nurbhai and they have two children. Sakina has also volunteered at other various organizations throughout the years.


Doug Patten, MD

Dr. Doug Patten is Associate Dean of the Southwest Campus of the Medical College of Georgia.

He previously served as chief medical officer at Phoebe and CMO for the Georgia Hospital Association. He practiced general surgery in Cordele for 18 years before coming to Phoebe. He graduated in 1981 from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Doug works on his farm and cares for his wife’s horses. He and his wife, Joni, have two children.


Leah Sewell

Residing in Albany for more than 20 years, Leah Sewell has extensive volunteer experience throughout the community.

She studied computer programming and is a Certified Dental Assistant. She has served on the boards of the Charity League of Albany, Volunteer Advisory Board of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Junior League of Albany and Deerfield-Windsor School. A member of Gillionville Baptist Church of Albany, she is married to Dr. Billy Sewell and they have two children.


Terri Stumpe

Terri Stumpe was born and raised in Camilla, GA, moved to Albany in 1984 after graduating with a business degree, majoring in marketing, from Valdosta State University.

Terri is President and CEO of Royal Collection, Inc., which owns and operates both The Royal Collection, a local ladies boutique and The Parlor Salon. She has actively served in leadership positions with several local non-profit organizations. Terri and her husband, Glenn, have a daughter, Kendall, and a son, Tanner.


Callie Walker

Callie Walker is an Albany native and real estate broker for Hughey & Neuman, Inc.

She specializes in residential and commercial real estate. Callie graduated from the University of Georgia and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southwestern State University. Callie has been active in the community through numerous non-profit organizations such as the Albany Board of Realtors, Albany Area YMCA and Dougherty County Rotary Club.
