LEEP Electrosurgical Excision Procedure
If a woman received an abnormal cervical cancer screening, a physician may recommend a Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). This year, the Phoebe Sumter Foundation was able to purchase a machine to be placed in the Phoebe Sumter Obstetrics and Gynecology office. We are glad we are able to provide this procedure in a safe, familiar, and convenient location to our patients..

The new, portable ultrasound can be moved from room to room, allowing convenient use for all new expecting parents.

Cardiac Stress Testing
One person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. For a heart attack survivor or heart patient, cardiac rehabilitation may help not only recover more fully, but come out feeling even better and happier than before. Cardiac stress tests let doctors know how the heart responds to being pushed, so patients can continue to get the best care for their heart and body.

Five Wishes Educational Material: $141.45
End-of-life conversations are difficult to have with patients and families. Five Wishes is a patient-centered advance care planning program that offers a proven, easy-to-use approach to having effective and compassionate conversations. Having this resource on hand for patients gives them and their families the information they need to ensure peace of mind at the end of one’s life.

2019 Projects

Two Chemo Treatment Chairs: $ 5,085.60
Undergoing chemotherapy is a physical, mental and emotional demanding time. We purchased two new recliners for patients to use during their chemotherapy treatment. The chairs provide comfort in a time when patients need it. They also provide patient safety features that allow patients to safely exit the chair. We are excited to have this chair positively impact the care of our approximately 500 patients per year.

Stryker Early Ambulation Chair: $8,753.00
Our goal and every patient’s goal is to get home as quickly as possible. With this new resource, patients will get out of bed, up to a standing position, and hopefully, walking more quickly.  It assists in increasing patient’s mobility, decreasing length of stay, and may help patients return to home instead of short-term rehab. We estimated it will assist 20 or more patients per month.

Stryker Flyte Helmets: $12,316.13
Providing quality equipment and resources for our physicians, so they in turn can provide quality care to our patients, is important to us. As our surgery number grows, we were able to fulfill a physician need during total joint procedures. This helmet provides a safeguard against contamination, exposure to infectious bodily fluids and transfer of microorganisms or particulate matter during each surgery.

Bladder Scanner: $13,400.00
As medical resources advance, we are able to provide less evasive ways of determining medical procedures. With our new Bladder Scanners, nursing and physicians are able to assess patients for urinary retention and bladder distention. With a quick scan of the lower abdomen, medical staff can evaluate the need for a catheter. This equipment allows an accurate assessment of retention without the utilization of a urinary catheter, which prevents unnecessary catheterizations.

18 month calendar planner for Oncology patients: $900.00
Patient care extends outside the hospital walls with an 18 month calendars/planner for patients receiving treatment. This go-to calendar serves as resource to manage their appointments for treatment.
