Donald W. (Fred) Lee, a native of Albany, Georgia, graduated summa cum laude from Mercer University in 1982, and then attended Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law, receiving his J.D., cum laude, in 1985.  Mr. Lee was a member of the Mercer Law Review and the Brainerd Currie Honor Society.

After graduation, Mr. Lee was selected as a law clerk to the Honorable Maurice M. Paul, United States District Court, Northern District of Florida, and occupied this position from 1985 until 1987.  In 1987 Mr. Lee joined the firm of Perry, Walters & Lippitt as an associate.  He became a partner in that firm on January 1, 1990, but withdrew later in 1990, to form his own law firm, which continued through February 28, 2019.  As of March 1, 2019, Mr. Lee became a partner in Drew Eckl & Farnham, LLP, where he continues his practice today.

While Mr. Lee’s experience has been primarily in litigation for insurance, healthcare, and corporate clients, he also has developed expertise in the healthcare industry, particularly in the areas of risk management, health information, medical staff, credentialing, professional licensure, etc.  He has spoken on many occasions on miscellaneous topics to general healthcare audiences, and particularly enjoys speaking to nursing students on medical/legal topics affecting nursing care.  Another large portion of Mr. Lee’s practice is devoted to workers’ compensation matters.

Mr. Lee has served on several committees at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Inc. and has been a member of the Institutional Review Board since January, 2003.  He has previously served as Interim Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Institutional Review Board.  He has served in the past on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Georgia Chapter, American Red Cross.  Mr. Lee has completed the general civil mediation training and practicum at the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Training at the University of Georgia, and is certified as a mediator by the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.
