    About Jeremy Joyner, MD

Dr. Jeremy Joyner, general surgery, joined Phoebe Physicians in 2009 and is a member of the medical staff at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. He is a member of Phoebe General Surgery of Americus and practices alongside his father, Dr. Douglas Joyner, as well as Dr. Sean Sheff.

A native of Americus, Dr. Joyner returned to Southwest Georgia after completing a Surgical Fellowship in minimally invasive, endoscopic, and bariatric surgery at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, Minnesota. He completed both an internship and residency in general surgery at the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta).

He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery with an interest in minimally invasive approaches to gastrointestinal disease, including obesity, reflux, and colon surgery. Current pursuits include single site laparoscopic surgery and mini-laparoscopic surgery, employing fewer and smaller incisions to improve postoperative pain, cosmetic appearance, and recovery time for his patients. He has expanded his services to include transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) which is the most advanced, incisionless procedure for safely and effectively treating GERD. Dr. Joyner is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

He earned a bachelor of arts in biology (pre-med) from Taylor University in Upland, Ind., before moving on to earn his doctorate of medicine from the Medical College of Georgia.
