Applicants often ask us:

Interviews will be solely in-person, and will take place between October and February. A resident takes each applicant out to an informal dinner at 7:00 p.m. on the night before interview day. The next morning starts at 8:30 a.m., with a meeting with our Program Coordinator to discuss Benefits. There will be four 20 minute interviews throughout the morning: one with the program director, one with a faculty member and two with residents. There are also tours of the clinic, hospital and resident housing. The day ends around noon.

While a good number of our residents tend to buy houses due to the low cost of living, we are also proud to offer Flaggstone. Located just one block from the hospital, Flaggstone is a beautiful, modern apartment building designed specifically for healthcare professionals in training.

Our residents have varied interests. While most go into hospital medicine or outpatient primary care, quite a few have completed fellowships, to include: Sports Medicine, Behavioral Health, Maternal Health, Palliative Medicine and Emergency Medicine.

The southern hospitality is unmatched. Albany is a nice, safe community that is easy to get around and very comfortable to live in. It is the perfect place for outdoor activities like hiking, running, fishing and hunting. Local attractions include Chehaw Zoo, the Flint Riverquarium, the Albany Civil Rights Museum and Ray Charles Plaza. There is also a 2.5 mile trail that includes scenic overlooks along the Flint River. We host the Snickers Marathon yearly, which is a big qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The beach is only three hours away, as Destin and Panama City are close by. Atlanta is also three hours away if you want to get away for the weekend.

We have the Phoebe Family Tree, a hospital owned daycare adjacent to the hospital. They treat the children like family and it is one of the best daycares in the city. Several residents and faculty utilize this awesome resource.

In addition to their salary, residents receive complimentary medical, dental and vision insurance, 28 vacation days, $2000 relocation allowance, $1500 for continuing education and much more. Please see the benefits page for more details.

As the only residency program in our entire organization, we receive firsthand access to all patients and procedures. Working at a community based hospital tends to have a more relaxed feel, with a lot of one-on-one time spent with attending physicians. The relationships that we develop with our specialists are so strong, that they often make themselves available to us even after we have graduated.

Yes! Complimentary all-you-can-eat hot breakfast and lunch are available every weekday in the Physician’s Lounge. There is also a Starbucks in the hospital lobby.
