The Light House

The Light House provides a soothing home-like setting where qualified patients can relax between treatments or spend the night to avoid having to travel back and forth to their home.

It is a place of warmth, comfort and rest for families going through some of the hardest and darkest days of their lives.

Lodging for Cancer Patients

This facility was made possible by generous donors who are dedicated to supporting patients at the Phoebe Cancer Center.

The original Light House was established in 1983 by the Junior Women’s Club of Albany, in partnership with Lights of Love at Phoebe. In January 2017, the building suffered irreparable damage in a devastating storm.

Now, the Light House has been rebuilt and reborn. It is a place of warmth, comfort and rest for families going through some of the hardest and darkest days of their lives. Our cancer patients sometimes have treatments in the morning and the afternoon. Many of them travel to Albany from outlying areas to receive world-class care and need treatments multiple days in a row.

It’s conveniently located across the street from the Phoebe Cancer Center and includes six bedrooms, each with a wheelchair accessible restroom and shower. There’s a commons area, a large kitchen, two quiet rooms, a veranda, sunroom and screened in porch. Each area is named after an individual or group who made a significant contribution to ensure the Light House would live on.

“We’re so grateful for all the kindhearted donors who made this new Light House a reality and ensured it will continue to be a beacon of hope for cancer patients for many years to come." -- Dr. Troy Kimsey

Cancer patients have enough to worry about. The Phoebe Foundation’s generous supporters know our patients need to use all their energy to focus on their healing and their health, not issues such as lodging and transportation.
