Phoebe Sumter Breaks Ground on New Facility in Buena Vista

Americus, Ga. – Phoebe Sumter Medical Center (PSMC) and Phoebe Physicians held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for Phoebe Primary Care of Buena Vista at its new location - the corner of Hwy 41 and Hwy 137 in Marion County.

“This groundbreaking shows a huge amount of commitment from Phoebe Sumter and Phoebe Physicians to help provide coverage to our entire service area, and solidifies our relationship with Marion County and the surrounding counties to provide great healthcare,” said Brandi Lunneborg, CEO Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. “We are in Buena Vista for the long-term and look forward to meeting the needs of this community for this generation and many more to come.”

Due to increased volume and the demand for access to specialty physicians in Marion County, Phoebe was outgrowing its current location at 131 East 6th Street. Phoebe Sumter announced the purchase of 25 acres from the Murray Family to house the future home Phoebe Primary Care of Buena Vista earlier this year.

The new facility will allow Phoebe to see more patients and provide the opportunity to expand services. Physicians specializing in cardiology, orthopaedics and rehabilitation will rotate through the clinic, allowing patients to receive the expert care they need without having to travel out of town. It will also provide space for health and wellness classes and support groups.

“We are excited to continue our growth throughout our region to ensure that the people of Marion and surrounding counties  have access to quality primary care and specialty care right here, close to your homes. The PSMC board is committed to outreach and improving access to care in the rural parts of our service area,” said Robbie Latimore, EdD, Chair, PSMC Board.

Bardin Hook, a PSMC board member, also added that access to quality healthcare is closely related to economic development and prosperity. “Without such facilities it is virtually impossible to attract and retain new residents and businesses to the community. So, this clinic will also help strengthen and grow the local economy in Marion County by improving the quality of life for its citizens and creating a more attractive environment for new businesses and industries.”

Phoebe Physicians began operating the Buena Vista clinic in September 2017. It is staffed by Dr. Daniel Singleton and family nurse practitioner Sarah Cross. Phoebe Primary Care of Buena Vista will continue to provide care in its current location until the new clinic opens.
